Some dusts including titanium and magnesium are too reactive to be captured safely using dry filtration in most situations. Titanium is a major source of dust in aerospace applications and is hazardous; when worked it can produce sparks, and the dust produced is flammable – meaning titanium processing is high risk.
Mixed dusts can also introduce risks; for example, mixing aluminium and steel dusts can generate a thermite reaction. Thermite mixes can self-ignore.
For these applications we specify wet filtration systems. Wet filters use water and a self-induced scrubbing action to remove dusts from airstreams. Dust is removed as a sludge from the filtration unit and can be disposed of through your standard dust disposal supplier.
New AirBench WD – Wet Filtered Downdraught Bench
The new AirBench WD is a self-contained downdraught bench with wet filtration system. Following extensive development and testing, this new range is now in service capturing titanium dust at major manufacturers in the UK; reducing risk and keeping operators safe.
