“The reason we chose the AirBench from WorkPoint Environments was that it’s a compact and stand alone extraction system,” says Paul Brooke, production manager at Andy Thornton. “This means that the extraction unit can be moved around giving a more versatile production area.”
The AirBench is a dust extraction, dust filter system and work bench in one. It works by drawing dust and fumes down through a perforated work surface into internal filters and through the integral fanset. The un it provides uniform suction over the entire surface, extracting dust at one metre above the AirBench. Andy Thornton Limited uses the unit to extract dust from the rubbing down of chairs during the polishing process.
“The AirBench has many Benefits, the main one being its compact size,” says Paul. “It also ensures that we have a less contaminated and healthier working environment.” Other advantages of the dust extraction system are that it just needs a standard 13 amp connection, additional respiratory protection is not required and as the extraction fans and filters are integrated into the bench there are no arms of ducts to interfere with the production of larger items of furniture.
“If I could improve the AirBench it would be to make the side and back removable to achieve a more concentrated airflow,” says Paul. “We have also found that extracting into the work area can give draughts to other employees and disturb any dust or contamination in the near vicinity. Having said that the AirBench is ideal for our requirements.”
