Three Reasons Why You Need a Downdraught Bench

Downdraught benches, tables and booths are critical components within many industrial and manufacturing sectors. Without their presence, employee safety may be jeopardised and in a very real sense, serious injuries may occur. Let us take a quick look at five compelling reasons why a downdraft assembly represents a core element within many environments.

1. Dealing with Dust There are many workplace applications which can produce an appreciable amount of airborne dust. Grinding, masonry and sanding are three common examples. The problem is that these particles (such as silica) can be quite small; enabling them to be inhaled and to subsequently damage the lungs. Downdraft extraction benches can remove these components from the air; helping to ensure the safety of nearby workers.

2. Fume Extraction Fumes represent another very real danger within the workplace. As these are more difficult to detect when compared to airborne particulate matter, they can be even more hazardous. Companies which regularly deal with chemicals or potentially carcinogenic compounds can benefit from a targeted fume extraction system. Even odourless and colourless gases will be safely removed from the environment. This is the very same reason why such systems are often considered to be mandatory to ensure that long-term respiratory injuries can be avoided.

3. Welding and Grinding Applications Welding and grinding are associated with their own set of unique hazards. For example, the gases emitted from flux compounds are known to contain numerous cancer-causing agents. Grinding metals can likewise emit sparks and tiny shards of material which can pose dangers. Workers need to be provided with adequate safeguards. While there is no doubt that the presence of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory, it is also critical to point out that these accessories will be of little use if welding fumes and similar hazards are not efficiently removed from the air through the use of a downdraught table, bench or booth.

It is clear to see why the presence of a reliable downdraught bench is important. AirBench offers a range of different sizes and configurations. Please contact us to learn more about your options or to address any additional questions.
